For instance, a sane person would say, "I love this thing. I should experience it more. That thing over there that I hate can go die in a fire".

No, I have to swallow my revulsion and head right back in. "WHY DO I HATE THIS? THERE HAS TO BE A REDEEMING VALUE HERE OR SOMETHING I AM MISSING"

It's ridiculous.

Starting to wonder if my , "I must understand this thing I hate", fixation is nothing more than a virulent strain of masochism.

I'm getting to that stage where my Air is concerned.

OSX does have some configuration limitations. Totally agree. They overall typography though is wonderful on my not so good eyes. And yes, Windows has made some stunning improvements in both UI and fonts.

Mate isn't really telling me much. It's Gnome 2 and therefore acceptable to me. KDE..now there's something I have issues with. Ever since 4.0. I'm told it is better now. About to find out.

Observation: The font situation in Linux has improved much over the years. However, after working in MacOS, the typography here makes my eyes bleed. If I were still solely Linux, I'd be pleased but now? Ugh.

@skematica
My reasons are kind of selfish. There are a couple of people over there who are going to just walk away when the ship goes down and they're really great people. I'd love to see them migrate over here.

Done exploring the reasons I hate Unity.

It's simply bad interface design. They took the pro of simplicity and made a con of it. It's deserves marquee billing in the "We know best" hall of shame.

Now in MATE.

Other than applying pressure to those left there to come over here, not really. That's my take on it anyway.

Rather than watch the debate, I am going to continue my debate with Ubuntu.

See, when I loathe something. I obsess over why. Really, anything I disagree with I at least want to understand it. Nine times out of ten, I leave the experience at least respecting something - If grudgingly.

For instance, I like most people find racism appalling. Had a neighbor who was the Grand Dragon of the Dixie Knights. He was agreeable enough and I didn't quite get WHY he was a Grand Dragon. Long story short, I attended a rally. Was in full garb and carrying a AR-15. They had some goofy-assed name for what I was but it was, essentially, bodyguard. Was filmed by a TV news crew during this rally. Fervently hoped no-one would recognize my shoes. That's a future blog post if there ever was one. One of the only times I have left a situation like that with even more distaste than when I had entered.

Anyway…

The situation with Ubuntu is nowhere near that extreme but there's nearly eight years of bad blood between us. I want to know why.
