@kdfrawg He is one of my all time favorite authors Was crushed when he passed away.

//

@kdfrawg He is viewed in an almost religious light by some, yes. (Same with Rand)

//

His world-building and socio-political commentary is what I like. It can be a bit much to get into, though. It's the same way with Umberto Eco as well.

// @kdfrawg

@kdfrawg This is why I like Skyrim. The elves are actually part of the problem and a fun side-activity is murdering them in bulk without accruing a bounty,

//

I'm that way about most science fiction as well. There are a few writers in the genre I love (Leiber Sr., Frank Herbert, etc).

Most of the others bore me to tears.

@kdfrawg Borland Pascal, from back in the day, made it so easy as well. Most of my Pascal was ASM blocks :)

@kdfrawg I have, admittedly, not messed with bare metal or embedded in going on ten years. (Outside of goofing off)

@kdfrawg It's more than age. Look at the instruction set of the 8080, which you undoubtedly did work on. Now, look at the instruction set of a modern Intel processor.

@kdfrawg Having to guard against intentional buffer overflows/SQL injections and such while juggling the memory management too. It just isn't scaling anymore. Hasn't for a while.

Love the language. It's my primary language. Have to admit that it's time is coming to an end though. At least outside of the systems and embedded space.

@kdfrawg If this conversation goes any farther, we can discuss the smart pointer libraries every single C and c++ programmer writes… :D
