Wow..It has a wikipedia page. I had no idea.

@kdfrawg West Virginia has had one huge hard time since the late 1920s.
The area I came from was given the double whammy by the demise of riverboats and the depression. To the east, a place called Volcano was very rich in oil and natural gas. A mine fire started and managed to burn for many decades. Town shrank from many thousands to a few hundred. Just one hard luck story after another.

Which would make me feel better about humanity's imminent demise.

//

Or was it Belpre, OH…or Washington, WV. Time is making my memory wonky.

@kdfrawg GE had a R&D center in Marietta, OH at one time if I am not mistaken. They used to require these "Special Floppy Drives" for a spectrum analyzer that cost 500.00 a piece. They were just regular TEAC drives with the jumpers configured differently. I sold a them a slew of them for 80.00 a piece :D

My hair is falling out. My gums are bleeding. Soon it will be winter year round. But..if I can find a working cell tower, my email is there waiting.

@kdfrawg Sounds like you drove through Wheeling and that general vicinity. I'm from right below the panhandle, along the Ohio river. Lived in Columbus for a time (Bexley, actually).

Driving US 33 from Columbus, through Athens and then Nelsonville used to be a pretty drive.

I would kill to have a 300SL from the 50s. Love those.

@kdfrawg "I was born and raised in West Virginia", he said. Eliciting surprise from no one.

//

I always wondered what they did.
