They don't have a choice but to be. The only reason Apple got away with dictating their terms was their popularity. Now smart phones are as sexy and mysterious as toaster ovens, Apple doesn't quite have the leverage anymore. All the power is going right back to the carriers.

I use an iPhone already but that isn't going to stop them in the long run. When Apple's profits start falling, and they will, they will start selling that data like anyone else.

With the old flip phones, there was no danger. You could hold it in your hand on your lap and hammer out messages without even looking or paying attention to it. I'd wager smartphones have made this MORE dangerous.

iOS is starting to remind me of Linux a few years back. Updates that would blow chunks all over the room and leave you in a panic.

Mine was a bit…squirrely…after the update. Seemed to right itself after a shutdown/restart or two.

I suspect the reason it never dawns on me how far back some of the things I worked with are is that I am still somewhat current.

If I were to step away from all technology for a few years, it would suddenly be more clear.

I've offended the Internet. It's nothing new.

…I had mixed emotions about the Internet back then. Mostly because I knew that it catching on would kill the really cool community that sprung up around ARPANet.

Me and @kdfrawg are very close to being the old guys in the park reminiscing about trench warfare experiences in WW1 France.

Had a bunch of topic-specific channels. loads of traffic for a while in the mid 1990s. The central and western US BBSes seemed to favor it for a while. I got involved while I was living in Oklahoma.
