@kdfrawg There was a time when I was going to order a new battery and keycaps. Just didn’t seem worth tinkering with since it’s getting so old.
@kdfrawg The keyboard backlight suddenly came on and the thing sounds like a wind tunnel. It energetically lunching itself, perhaps.
Heck with it. I’m going to stay at the office until the Air is finished updating. Chip, our HVAC guy, hasn’t called yet so there’s still no AC at the house. Sidekick is lounging across the street at her parent’s house so she’s not inconvenienced by it either.
@matigo With Windows, you knew it was screwing stuff up so it didn’t really matter what it told you.
Taking a VM from 3.11 to XP via successive upgrades is a hoot.
I love how Apple revolutionized the “Don’t worry your pretty little head about it” approach to major updates.
Just a damned Apple and a progress bar plus a highly inaccurate time remaining figure.
Nothing like the Linux console based updaters and their barrage of “Installing incomprehensibly named package”
@kdfrawg Truth be told, I’m hoping it lunches itself. I need an excuse to upgrade.
@kdfrawg I’m betting over the file system upgrade. My mini wouldn’t be subject to that since, from what I understand, the new file system doesn’t work on their hybrid drives yet.

Trigger pulled. High Sierra installing on Air. No backup.
I tempt fate like this in the hopes it fails so I can upgrade the hardware. All the important stuff is in cloud or private off line storage anyway.
I’ll just leave it here on my desk and be surprised tomorrow morning..or shocked/disgusted.
