@matigo This is what gets me. Dragging the large file from a network volume via finder yielded "Nope". Copying from the command line went fine. Just dirt slow as the filesystem purged itself.
# sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=erase.me bs=65536; rm erase.me
…and the laptop ran like a top for the first time in ages.
@streakmachine I no longer even use the apps I installed it for so it’s loss will not be felt
I have just about had it with “smart” file systems. If I have to dd a file to fill the disk then delete the resulting file to free purgable space in order to copy a large file onto the volume, you screwed up.
@streakmachine I haven't done a port update or upgrade in forever. No clue what was going on there.
Not sure how macports managed to eat 50GB of disk space but I killed it with fire and have moved on with my life.
@nitinkhanna MySQL has always impressed me with it's robustness. I've only encountered one legitimate bit of corruption in the last 17 or so years.
@larand Surprised DHL still exists. We used to use them here for large form shipments until we cancelled them shortly after I started here.
