The statement
"We're also very very lucky that the attackers tried to use explosives rather than guns."
is about as meaningful as saying
"We're so very fortunate the attackers didn't unleash trained velociraptors on the crowd"
It's shoehorning a pet narrative into a story and it was clumsily done at that. I find the clumsy part more offensive than the narrative, to be honest.
