Depending on the type. It's physical as well as mental. Lethargy. Either feeling down, hopeless or nothing at all. (For me, mostly nothing at all). Massive sleep problems. Digestion issues. Short temper. Desire to be away from any other living thing. In extreme cases, wanting to just "end it all".

The opposite end is HYPER. Endless, manic energy. If you've ever done cocaine or real, honest to god bennies…it's that without the heart palpitations and paranoia.

The cycle never ends. In my case, medications are worse than the disease. Mostly due to the fact that I had a severe head injury. Things like Prozac cause me to have psychotic episodes. (I was on it very briefly when they were first doing trials of it.)

I simply recognized the cycle and learned to live with it. I don't touch medication of any sort. It sounds horrible but after going on 40 years of it, it's almost routine. Neither I nor Sidekick even think about it anymore. When I am on the downward end of the cycle, she knows I need quiet and a little space and that everything will be fine in a week or two.
