@matigo Not quite sure what happened. Storms and rain were hours prior. Just poof and we were dark for a couple of hours.
Making the best of Monday.
- Fired up KNAC.COM.
- Checking out changes to code made over the weekend. Minus the two hours I lost due to a citywide power outage last night. Grrr.
- Hyped up on B12 and caffeine.
Thundercats are go.
@matigo The last time I saw a RPM-based system this munged was Red Hat 9.0 years ago. (Loooong time)
I think I am winning the battle. We'll know the next time it reboots.
RHEL 6 workstation in Palm Beach, FL.
Had yum update run in order to grab the new Firefox.
Something happened. Something horrible.
Kernel panic on reboot. Had to choose prior kernel to start. Weird behavior all around. Yum had duplicated 960 packages. Two different versions of our own software were installed. A cleandupes operation deleted 2 gigs of stuff. It also, somehow, set SELinux to strict enforcing. System lost all connectivity save the ssh session I had open.
Long story short, I'm going to have to manually verify that nearly 1000 packages are correctly installed and are the proper versions.
If this box were to be rebooted right now, it would never come up again.
So.. How has your day been?
@Was thinking about you and yours after hearing about it. Glad you are okay.

@matigo I cannot think of another profession that has fallen so far and so fast.

Holiday weekends are little more than a time for forced labor. I have been dragged to a church rec center to pick things up and put them down again in almost exactly the wrong spots.
Upon rebooting after the initial update, the Ubuntu box is stuck on the screen with the Ubuntu logo. Can ssh into it and all services I need are operating. I've not checked the logs because I am that unconcerned,
So, I guess I have Ubuntu Server after-all.
Was going to go into grub and set the options to only come up in console mode anyway. So, No harm - No foul.
If I were using it as a workstation, my language would be very colorful at this point.
@matigo The full desktop install is working wonderfully and I have a compiler that does c++17 now.
